Anticipation…It’s Crazy

CoverThis happens to all of us. While preparing to make a long delivery, we build momentum through a series of smooth, lengthening false casts. Then, when it’s time to let the cast go, everything seems to come apart. The problem? That old bugaboo called anticipation. In our eagerness to get the most out of the delivery, we try to produce too much. That smooth motion collapses into an ill-timed explosion of muscle that completely destroys the form of the cast. Casting guru Lefty Kreh describes it as “jumping out of your shorts.” The solution? Keep your delivery as smooth and even as with your false casts. Don’t punch it when you don’t need to. Don’t try to do too much. —C.M.
